Concrete That Works as Hard as a Bard Farm
Most epoxy flooring we install in Bard goes into buildings that support farming. Bard is an unincorporated community in Imperial County along County Route S24. It was created in 1910 after the eastern part of the Fort Yuma Indian Reservation was declared surplus under the Dawes Act, and it is named for Thomas R. Bard, who promoted the irrigation district. Irrigation built this community, and the concrete here reflects that: shops, sheds, wash pads and farmhouse garages.
Part of the Yuma Project
Bard's fields are watered through the Yuma Project. The project's Reservation Division is split into the Bard Unit and the Indian Unit, and the Reservation Division and Bard Unit occupy much of what was the Fort Yuma Indian Reservation. The project began in 1903, and most of its work was done by 1915. Farm work tied to that water means equipment, fuel and mud end up on shop floors year round.
Shop and equipment floors
For a farm shop, we build a floor around the work done in it.
- Base: a thick epoxy layer over a ground slab, to handle jacks, stands and heavy implements
- Chemical resistance: a topcoat that stands up to diesel, oil, hydraulic fluid and common farm chemicals
- Traction: grit in the topcoat where floors get wet from wash-downs or muddy boots
- Layout: painted lines for bays, walkways or storage if you want them
Old shop slabs in farm country often have years of oil soaked into the surface. We grind and degrease, and where oil has gone deep we treat those spots before coating so the floor bonds.
Date gardens and packing areas
Bard is home to the Imperial Date Gardens. Packing, sorting and storage rooms in an agricultural area need floors that can be cleaned often. A seamless coating has no grout lines or open pores to hold dirt and residue, and it can be mopped or squeegeed dry. We can recommend a system for a farm packing room, office or storage space once we have seen it and know how it is cleaned.
Farmhouse garages and patios
Not every Bard job is a shop. Farm homes have garages and patios that take a beating from field dust and work boots. A flake garage floor hides the dust, and the texture gives grip. For a patio in full sun, we use a lighter color with a UV-stable topcoat, since Bard's desert climate brings a lot of sunshine all year.
Getting a Bard estimate
Bard is a short drive across the river from Yuma. Tell us what each building is used for, its rough size, and what is on the floor now. For large shops we walk the whole floor with you, mark problem areas and give you a written quote that separates prep, repairs and coating.
Scheduling around the farm calendar
Shop floors need the building empty for the length of the job, plus cure time before heavy equipment rolls back in. Tell us when your slow season is and we will schedule the work then. For larger shops we can coat one half at a time so part of the building stays in use. A polyaspartic topcoat can shorten the wait before you drive equipment back onto the floor.

Bard Questions
Can you coat an old farm shop floor with heavy oil stains?
Usually, yes. We grind the slab, degrease it and treat deep oil spots before coating so the floor bonds. Badly contaminated areas may need extra prep, and we will price that separately in the quote.
What floor works for a packing or storage room in Bard?
A seamless epoxy or polyaspartic coating is easy to clean and has no grout lines to hold dirt. Where the floor gets wet, we add grit to the topcoat for traction. Tell us how the room is cleaned and we will match the system to it.
Do you also coat farmhouse garages and patios in Bard?
Yes. A flake garage floor hides field dust and is easy to sweep. Patios in full sun get a lighter color and a UV-stable topcoat.
